The main peculiarity of COR-TEN steel is that of self-protecting itself from electrochemical corrosion, through the formation of a compact passivating surface patina, consisting of the oxides of its alloying elements, such as to prevent the progressive spread of corrosion; this film varies in shades over time, usually has a brown color and varies in shades with the passage of time.
